Weight Loss Secrets Serenade

WEIGHT LOSS

Are you miserable with how
To can see and feel my pain?
Please don't hurt my holly cow
Where I left that frozen rain...

You look and feel? Have you tried
To nibble lump in melon rind?
That bug that's been in air died
Throw out the oranges and ate the blind.

Diet after diet and failed? Have you given up
On marching along for seeking of smog?
But where will it run when the time is up,
And diet pepsi throws my mind in fog.

On losing weight? You are not alone!
But critical fat burners subcultured in shame...
The man who says it can't be done
(For whole question & nothing's gone.)
To be crash-kille only by this name.

Every year millions of people take a trip
Pouring cream into common air.
Without a song the colors drip.
And shakes only snow out of the hair.

On the diet and weight loss roller coaster
Sagacious towers blindly grab
and spirit died between two lobsters
Born in Doctor Evil lab.

And they spend billions of dollars,
And this one seems to grow real fast.
Now who's bowling to be solar?
Swirling and moving like an arm in a cast...

On every fad diet available in
Fanatic ray that ready to destroy the world -
Around our head just life falls in ruins
You are the best person and, sure, the best word.

An attempt to lose weight... What are the secrets?
Does nothing to launder the backs of you fears
Which was aching with fully regret?
Even mankind had no ears from which to hear...

To losing weight? First of all, diets don't work!
I kissed the bunch of beavers
To only know this, don't wanna look like dork
I feel this wrong to simply pull a lever.

Period! There is no magic pill, machine or “secret”
A War! How can we live, give birth to plastic kids?
And is that memory I was a piglet?
One only stuff that useful I did...

That will magically make your body lose weight.
And I won't never eat these eggs and stay,
It was a dark and stormy - very great!
But nothing is original to say...

You have to think of it as a new way of life,
And sparkling yellow potion filled.
Relax, don't get involved knife
To cry inside you and be killed.

A permanent commitment, not just something
But I think this enough exceed.
Few naked ladies know simply what I'm seeing
Knife edge to easy write and read.

You do for a few days or a week and it's over.
Just make sure that your cars break.
And, now you know - it's only cover,
And you will get whatever you take.

If you follow a diet or weight loss plan
It should be a malfunctioning droid.
You seem to have misplaced your recipe for flan?
Then they stole it, were they paranoid?

That requires you to totally eliminate foods -
Without any samples in your mouth.
Long heard - hence - long misunderstood...
I wished those toys my early youth.

Or severely limit certain foods,
To be or not to be is just a bunch of blather.
But soon you sure will chew wood -
It's time not to the rocks, but gather.

You are setting yourself up for disappointment
When you'll find yourself in the troubles.
As I spoke before that all became supermen,
Naked playing cards become pocket bibles.

Frustration, and disaster from the start:
Damn mouse that just drunk off all my beer!
Rejection burns deep, and you found hole in your heart,
But it was there - you felt yourself like peer!

You do not have to starve your body to lose fat -
You and the similars all the same can't be butterflies.
Once upon a time there was just a little cat:
Just cup filled with clouds of my memories.

In fact, you must never skip a meal to lose weight
Carving out a pernicious void.
My jacket was put on, way to gate,
Kind of like a malfunctioning droid.

Think about it. The main goal of your body is to survive
And turning the fat fatten logs.
Lost in webspace and split all arrives
Cosmo farmer just shot their dogs.

If you try to lose weight by reducing your calories
Spreading hands that will choose what I set.
How this natural strength in my truly salaries
Said to all 'bout screaming I get.

Too much, your body will respond by storing fat
The ceremony of innocence is drowned.
And I ate this sweet fried big cat
Throu the net that withered and waned.

Instead of losing it and using muscle tissue to provide it,
We all have meat balls that grow.
If their life's so grand that we live it -
Then white stuff on the temple we're calling snow...

With the calories it needs. You body reacts this way.
Shout about doubt, don't pout you lout.
And how do you make them go this day?
C'mon dude, now twist and shout!

Because muscle is the most readily available energy source.
So overly protein abound,
Its calling as an unique horse -
The better name that could be found.

Using muscle tissue to feed the body lowers muscle mass
He would rule with an iron's rod.
Molten flowers explode yellow as I pass
That vanishly displayed weird bod.

Causing the body's metabolism to slow down...
Opened eyes are full of glimmers
At their grandiose sense of silly town
And sparkling memories of funky rhymers.

This, in turn, makes it that much more difficult,
Even better than a deep fried served band.
Reality is way leading to useless result,
Dancing in clear white robes, with knife in hand

To lose weight. Starving yourself is NOT the answer!
My Lord! Just got a strawberry milk shake and fries -
Life is like a big sausage, full of cancer
And droids' dance through fields of cries...

The result is a vicious cycle of trying to lose weight -
Walking constantly, awakeing and chewing...
Bright like a metaphorical tiger height -
They make themselves known by their ground crewing.

But gaining weight instead!
Life is short, drink wine and don't be sorry!
That keeps life around in your head -
Berserkers on both sides fought in a flurry.

What will burn that stubborn body fat and rev up
And Can we stop the tide?
But where will you, you rave handicap -
Stuffed animals never think of suicide.

Your metabolism without burning muscle mass?
Put on some rassberry chapstick,
Wiggle and squirm and get ready for class,
Throust your eye out with a joystick.

To effectively lose weight, you must drink.
The woman in the jam has always been a brawler,
And even little men can sing -
And dream of sing is dirty trawlers.

Lots of water, exercise daily, and eat five or six
So soon you smear it over fatty legs
Then consumation with my friend that kicks
And you take hits and more beg...

Small nutritious meals throughout the day,
My socks are wet, and my shoes now slosh.
Yet it's a scratch and save day at the bay -
Lets make all to go out and to wash.

No more than four hours apart. This’s weight loss!
You woke up in a state of bread
Vomiting robot poems are so gross -
I saw the Judge, his name was Dread.

Plan keeps your metabolism working at
The dinner, at last, emerged with juice-stained togs
You may want to get me contact lense "fihting cat".
While I gnaw my friend leggie, fatty hog.

Maximum efficiency to burn fat...
Like a pile of enthusiastic newfoundlands
There, yet I saw the rat, only the rat.
It sprinkled it with coriander to be bland.

Your body will not store up fat calories because
And when you try to hold them I leak like a sieve.
The windows are the eyes of house, thorny rose -
You crumble, wither as trees grieve.

It senses there will be a steady supply of food
At night and even in the day!
Cows are evil, pigs are good -
And your award is on its way.

And you will not feel hungry or deprived
When you died upon the foolisg red dock.
Reality through the brain is the world short-sived,
Saying silently ,"gimme ball, gimme dick gimme rock"

Between meals. With this change in your eating habits.
And there they easy will be found -
At the edge of revolution of blue rabbits,
Upon the gonfaloon do mighty gnats abound.

You will not be as tempted to cheat
The goddess - looks too fear...
But sun still spreading down heat
And shining eyes leak shining tears...

And your weight loss will be much easier!
You give its a chance of your black stain
Washing the wet movie boots of dead teasers
It can control all your brain.

In addition, you MUST do some sort of
Birds. Birds with arms it seemed too mystic.
Is it very hard as pure Smirnoff?
Or realistic, but trully sophistic?

Daily exercise - walking, power walking, jogging...
Though I never knew what was in the flue.
Catch this branch that is fogging
And crawling with the blues.

Elliptical training, bicycling and swimming...
And you think that gone your train,
You wish you could stop when everything done skimming
But everyone taste exorcist wine of your brain.

Are excellent and easy exercises that will put
Our thoughts to linger over fiery sun.
And unchecked breeding creates only the mutes
Only to realize not seeing is more fun...

Your body in fat-burning mode - these exercises
Stand up straight, then down on all floors.
Can you lap at toes of mighty and wise?
I finally able to get without door.

Force your body to burn a higher percentage of
Those diet pepsi, cookies - your mind is under fog
To deep in crazy game, to pick the magic golf
Would you handle doom if you looks like a hog?

Calories from fat and they increase your muscle mass:
The hula hoops chewed on all them
Wiggle and squirm and get ready for the class.
And quickly do because it is not like a femme

Allowing you to eat more. Plus, your body will burn
Poetry. Is it art, not the midless trash you peddle?
For little spots, that itch and turn
Like a snake pines for tall wood sandal.

Calories for up to an hour after the activity stops -
Yet, as you stop to observe your sense of duty flow
The Power of the Darkness is clambering to top
To lighten the display of creamy glow.

The secrets to the most effective diet and weight loss plan
Just to smell the flowers that smell so sweet.
And yes you do revel in the charade of this elan,
You must beware for things that eat your feet!

Are to listen to your body and eat when your body tells
So you done this and wear old tog.
That you kinda good and you kinda smell
Till it, at last, emerged with juice-stained frogs.

You - it's hungry, do daily exercises and make
Marking the time, but no looking back...
Your heart grew faint, their hearts began to shake
Just crank it up, let it down and give yourself whack.

The commitment to follow these guidelines:
Vice is nice, but a little virtue - won't hurt you?
This was the mission for which we were fine
Since you ran away with alien green shoe!

For a lifetime... Once you train your body to follow
Better or worse, more or less...
Somehow you didn't care about that cat's meow
And how it's cute its furry dress.

A proper diet and nutrition plan, you will eat more
Dancing and singing, lying and flying...
And please promise me - don't count and don't score
what a smacky promises - make you so crying.

Frequently but you will eat fewer calories,
You will've got that big god sound
Well you don't know, but I'll show you galleries -
Come and see half-life, you've been under ground.

Feel more satisfied, and lose weight!
Ask Mr.Yourself and spouse of course
Stopped or died - you found gate
Hey! be happy and be own nurse!

In a healthy manner - in that way and only that way
I'm not Shakespeare, I just using his quote
Words are very nice and, sure, can play
Filled with elegance, charm, just take note...

Will you lose weight and keep it off?
All you can do - make last kiss to the fries.
They caught your nose and pulled to cough -
Then just kick own ass and fly into the sky!!!

Divine Beauty Opus

Divine Food for Divine Beauty

Excerpted from the book “Your Right to Be Beautiful: How to Halt the Train of Aging and Meet the Most Beautiful You” by Tonya Zavasta. The book is available at: http://www.beautifulonraw.com/html/righttobe.html

The phrase "natural beauty" has been abused and misused beyond restoration. The modern use is almost never associated with its true meaning. Someone said there should be a portrait of a healthy person in a museum so people would know what they are talking about. If we don’t know what a healthy person looks like, how do we know what natural beauty is?

In our unnatural world, the word "natural" no longer means without effort, at least not in the realm of obtaining your best look. One thing is a must in defining natural beauty: its achievement must not involve any sacrifice of health. None, period. If health is compromised in any way beauty is not natural.

Our body was created in the image of God, the Supreme Beauty. When our actions are in opposition to nature, the results are different types of bodily ills, deformities, and ugliness. Since there can be no natural beauty without eating 100 percent natural food, most of you have never seen the natural you.

There is an urgent need for another word. The contemporary meaning of natural is too far from the divine. I suggest filling this void with "rawsome", a new word circulating in the raw food community. It is a combination of two words:" raw" and "awesome" with the meaning being something between natural and divine. The diet of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds also needs to be renamed. I have often been told that the phrase “the raw food diet”, sounds like eating raw meat, particularly sushi, which is misleading. The raw food diet is so awesome that it should be called the very name it inspired- the Rawsome Diet.

Most of us feel our appearance lacks something. In reality, ugliness is more about excess. Toxic accumulations in our bodies are responsible for stealing our health and attractiveness. Beauty lies latent under cushions of retained fluids, deposits of fat, and sick tissues. Your beauty is buried alive, but in most cases it can be revived in a version that will be satisfactory to you. You must take immediate action to revitalize it. When you do, your uncovered beauty will surprise and delight you.

Eating cooked food will leave residues the body cannot utilize, and they will be deposited in places our Creator never intended. Everything not fully digested and properly eliminated, the body will treat as an abnormal substance. It will pocket these toxins as far away from the vital organs as possible--on the peripheries of the body--where it will invariably be reflected in our outward appearance. If the body cannot use it inside, it will deposit it on the outside. Nutrients from the food you eat spiral upward to the epidermis, and their quality will determine whether you will have a glowing clear complexion or skin spotted with growths, such as moles and skin sores.

Some physical characteristics of our face and body we cannot change--they were determined prior to our birth. But the consumption of the raw plant diet as an adult will make a difference in the texture of skin and hair, the health of nails, weight and complexion. All of these traits and more are determined by daily choices, with food being one of the most important and, luckily, the one we can fully control.

The Rawsome diet is the most suitable one for human physiology. It is salubrious to the body’s health and salutary to its beauty. The ability to renew cells is built into your body, and the body itself is capable of making you look more attractive. After all, we were designed to bloom continuously as old cells get replaced by new ones. The Rawsome diet makes the most of this rejuvenating ability of our bodies.

Rawsome beauty is not manufactured from the outside but cultivated from the inside by nutritionally charged food. Whole raw food restores the integrity of every cell and facilitates the optimal operation of every organ inside and out. The body, having been awakened by the improved diet, in its wisdom, will reach out to the places where health was lacking, and you will gradually see your beauty surfacing. The Rawsome diet will eliminate all the toxins on a deeper level and bring amazing changes to your appearance.

Only the body sustained on raw food will host natural beauty, or should we say Rawsome beauty. The landscape of the body will change. The surface of the skin will become soft and smooth but still firm and supple. Visible pores will diminish. A sallow skin with a yellow pallor will turn into a porcelain-like complexion. The whites of eyes, once red, will become bright with a bluish tinge. As natural collagen production improves, it will fill in the places where it is needed as in hollow cheeks. Raw food eating will clarify and refine your features and bring delicacy to your face.

On the Rawsome Diet, you will marvel at how the Master Artist will make the most of your individual features and bring balance to the entire face. Texture, hues, and shape will be harmoniously arranged into a genteel whole. Perfection and imperfection will be tied together into a unique original version of beauty.

Each time I see a woman, I study her appearance, and I see not just the way she looks but the way she could look. What I see is how far her image falls short of her potential beauty. I perceive her beauty as it would stand out after the body has cleansed itself from toxins and excesses.

From age 15 until recently, I wore my hair permed, only to discover at 45 that straight hair in my natural color was the best possible frame for my face. Did my preference change? Not at all. My face did. So let me give you a hint, if you need a camouflaging hairdo, you are not looking your best. The changes in your face brought about by raw foods will bring the freedom to arrange your hair in any way you want. When your peer group is thinking: “I am losing my looks”, you will be finding yours. At 45, I enjoy looking in the mirror while before I detested my reflection.

As the cleansing initiated by this diet is completed, you will be very pleased to see how you were meant to look. Your body will exhibit beauty and dignity. You will become satisfied, even fascinated, with your appearance. When you look your very best, you look perfect, in a sense that you are as close to the divine image for yourself as you could ever be. You accept yourself completely. Natural beauty is above conformity; it doesn’t demand to be accepted by the dictates of the beauty norm.

People who have been on the raw food lifestyle for several years begin to have a glow, the kind not often seen in middle-aged people. Optimal health is recognized by an emerging radiance. Glow is hard to fake because it is internal. It comes from an abundance of clear, pink, almost transparent cells that light up the face. Only superior blood circulation can bring this transfiguring glow. Several years on the raw food diet will make you look as though you just stepped out of a painting by Renoir--the impressionist best known for his preoccupation with light.

I have come to believe if you do not embrace the 100 percent raw food diet, you will never meet The Most Beautiful You. The best proof that the Rawsome diet is optimal for the body is it makes you beautiful. Slim face, slender waist, and clear skin with smooth coloration-these subtle changes will convince you the raw plant diet is the best for good health and graceful beauty. No woman knows her true beauty until she cleanses her body completely of all waste.

You can say there are people who are beautiful, and they are not on this diet. That is true. It is hard to believe, but even they haven't seen the best of themselves. Dissatisfaction with one’s appearance arises not from perceiving our bodies inaccurately but because subconsciously we are aware we haven’t achieved our optimal look. The Rawsome diet gives a feeling of authenticity, an assurance we have become what we were meant to be.

Raw food not only corrects beauty’s shortcomings but also lifts the limitations of one’s spirit and releases strains and tensions in both your mind and body. People on the raw food diet have an aura about them, a transcendent nobility and complacent dignity. Sickness is goodness lost, and our unhappiness is a longing for goodness. One takes in the goodness in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables and feels its purifying process on the inside. Goodness in one’s food summons up goodness in one’s appearance and character.

Do you think it is hard to follow this life style? Women have done so many outrageous and dangerous things to themselves in the pursuit of beauty, I believe they should at least try the Rawsome lifestyle, which promises to transform them into beautiful people. What a woman won’t do for health, she will do for beauty. This is the first time beauty asks no sacrifice from health.

Written by Tonya Zavasta, author of the book “Your Right to Be Beautiful: How to Halt the Train of Aging and Meet the Most Beautiful You” and of the soon to be published its sequel “Beautiful on Raw”. In these books Tonya comes across as an ambassador for plain looking women in their quest for physical beauty. Tonya knows firsthand what it is to be humiliated, face adversity and meet the complex obstacles of daily living with a congenital disability. Facing several reconstructive hip surgeries to enable her to walk, she sought a way to offset the devastating effects of anesthetics on her health and appearance. She became more and more convinced that the solution to her quest for health and beauty was to be found in the raw food lifestyle or the Rawsome Diet as she calls it. The Rawsome Diet not only helped her to sail courageously through troublesome times, brought her general health and appearance to an all time best, but also opened a new chapter of her life. Firmly believing that the roots of under-performing and under-achieving lie in feeling and looking less than your personal best, she is on a mission: she wants every woman to look and feel beautiful. Tonya is convinced that by eating as God intended everyone can look uniquely beautiful as God envisioned. To learn more about how you can uncover your Rawsome beauty, visit: www.beautifulonraw.com. The Best Diet Opus

Hang In There Dieters, Help Is At Hand!

I was thinking about diets and such and it occurred to me that dieting is kind of like sports, but one way in which dieting differs from sports competition is that in dieting there seems to be a lack of gradualization in the preparation.

What I'm getting at is that if you want to run the 100 metres pretty fast, even competitively, you don't just go out to the track and put in a full practice right off the bat. I mean it's just not do-able really, is it? You've got to prepare and train in a systematic way which allows you to get stronger and faster throughout the training, and that can takes months if not, more realistically, years.

Well we all know that, we've all seen the "up close and personal" sports profiles, we all know that it's a long road to the podium, BUT somehow we have all got this belief that the "thirty day diet" will work! And why not, all we have to do is stop eating or at least reduce our intake to about twenty five percent and we're home free. "That sounds like fun! Why didn't I think of that?" But how long will it last?

Now let me clarify, I'm not dumping on the many diets out there that will produce a result, what I am getting at is the fact that you need to combine your diet with thoughtful preparation, you need a plan, you need a horizon greater than obtaining a transitory result in thirty days. It's a bit like the folks strapped to the bike machine in the gym, they put their heart and soul into working those legs in an effort to shed the pounds and then they get off with thighs pumped like an Olympic ice-skate racer. I mean you’ve got to question any slimming exercise that starts with the phrase "pump", oh yes, that's sure to mean “slimming”!

So enough, you want some answers, not questions or me casting doubt and undermining your "diet plan". OK, fair enough. You've got to treat your weight loss, diet, fitness or whatever plan as an Olympic sport; you've got to lay out a plan and I can guarantee you, it's not going to happen in thirty days or anything like it. Oh, you may see results but it's the sustainability that is the key feature here and you want something that is not going to be an imposition or restriction that you have to fret over every day, so really you need to get into training for your optimum fitness, optimum health and optimum weight, and that's a real program that will endure. And the good news is, you can eat lots of stuff that's "off limits" as long as you put in the requisite workout balance.

I can't give you my whole program here but I can tell you that if it's to be a plan that will work and continue to work in your weight management, you've got to take it gradually, and get comfortable with each level that you attain before trying for the next. You can't just go on the "deprive" premise and trust that if you cross that thirty-day diet target that the results will hold. You know they won't and then it's on to the next hot diet and more deprivation.

That doesn't sound too much like fun to me and I certainly want to help, so in my next article I'm going to give you some concrete advice on foods that I incorporate (and those that are definitely "out") in my program, and some simple but effective advice on the kind of exercise that will slim you, not "pump" you, and how this whole issue of diet is no thirty-day wonder, but a bit more like that Olympic athlete training systematically and gradually with a plan and a schedule to reach peak fitness for the big day.

Somebody once coined a phrase that I am very fond of and it is, "It's easy to make it difficult, it's difficult to make it easy!" I'm going to try to make it easy.

Hang in there, help is at hand!

Diet Mood Ode

Making The Food-Mood Connection

Food is more that just fuel for our bodies. What we eat - and when - has a major influence on the hormones that control our moods and emotional well-being, according to Sam Graci, nutritional researcher and author of the new book - The Food Connection: The Right Food at the Right Time.

For many Canadians, eating-on-the-go and opting for convenience foods - instead of healthy foods - is a way of life in today's fast-paced, stress-filled society. Poor eating habits not only cause poor concentration, depression and fatigue, but they are making Canadians "hormonally" unhealthy. Foods that are high in cholesterol and fat are wreaking havoc on the hormones that control moods.

Serotonin is the hormone that regulates the body's appetite, obsessive behaviors and cravings - and it also controls our moods. Getting just the right amount of this hormone will help keep the body emotionally fit - and prevent us from packing on unwanted pounds. However, too much serotonin can cause nausea and diarrhea, and too little can leave us feeling anxious, restless, depressed, impulsive and aggressive.

Balance your moods - and cravings - by eating protein at the right time of day and with the right amount of carbohydrates. It's important to reduce protein during the day and increase the amount of complex carbohydrates such as ripe fruits and raw vegetables that we eat. Try a nutritional supplement such as greens+™ - just one serving is the equivalent of six organic salads.

Each meal or snack has a major hormonal affect on our current mood, energy, mental clarity and emotional stability. Our last snack before bed will determine how well we'll sleep during the night, and that sleep will have a direct impact on our appetite, motivation, energy, decisiveness and overall moods the following day. The next time you're tempted to reach for a candy bar or bag of potato chips, think about the consequences it will have on your hormones - and your overall health.

For more information about greens+, call 1-877-500-7888, or visit the web site at www.greenspluscanada.com.

Healthy Hormones Eating Poem

Eat Your Way To Healthy Hormones

Reaching for a mid-afternoon candy bar instead of ripe fruit or raw vegetables can have serious consequences on our physical - and emotional health. According to a recent survey, 70% of Canadians are not getting the recommended five to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables in their diet. As a result, poor eating habits are making Canadians "hormonally" unhealthy.

Poor eating habits not only have a serious impact on our overall health, energy levels and immune system, but the wrong food choices can be emotionally draining too, according to Sam Graci, nutritional researcher and author of the new book - The Food Connection: The Right Food at the Right Time.

Eating refined or processed carbo-hydrates, which are high in fat, salt, sugar or artificial sweeteners sends insulin levels soaring and throws our hormones off balance. Too much of the insulin hormone slows down the growth hormone (GH) which controls our sense of well-being. It also increases the amount of the stress hormone cortisol in the body, which speeds up the aging process.

But you can eat your way to healthy hormones. Next time you have the munchies or that mid-afternoon craving, reach for ripe, colourful fruits, vegetables, a handful of nuts or seeds, or a nutritional supplement such as greens+™ - all of which are packed with phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals the body needs to stay healthy and keep hormone levels - stress, energy and moods - in check.

It's not only what you eat that will keep your hormones balanced - consider when you fuel up. Eating five small meals a day - three meals and two snacks - will help avoid the peaks and valleys of moods that can accompany big meals. Avoid skipping meals and waiting more than three and a half hours in between meals since this will zap our energy hormones and spoil our mood.

To help jump-start your energy hormones and promote mental clarity, start each day with greens+, a nutritional supplement and balanced formula of 23 premium quality, natural herbs, vitamins, minerals, organic and nutrient-rich foods.

Be sure to eat a balance of carbo-hydrates, protein and fat in all three meals. About 55% of our total daily calories should come from carbohydrates, 25 % from protein and 20% from fats. Breakfast and lunch should include the highest amount of lean protein, such as fish or chicken in order to stockpile nutrients for the day ahead. Throughout the day, the amount of protein eaten should be reduced gradually, and replaced by complex carbohydrates such as fruit and vegetables, leafy green salads and whole grains. To help maintain hormonal balance at the end of day, try to eat dinner before 7:30 p.m. Eating too much protein and not enough complex carbohydrates at dinner can make for a restless night's sleep.

Chicken Diet Opus

Chicken Scoop: Why Is Chicken A Dieter's Best Friend?

Let's Ask the Experts! Did you know a skinless chicken breast contains less than 1.5 grams of fat per 100 gram serving? Offering expert advice just in time for bathing suit season, Bryan Hughes, New Product Development Manager at Maple Lodge Farms raves over the nutritious merits of chicken.

"One of the leanest meats on grocery store shelves, chicken is an excellent source of protein that offers an energizing boost without the fat," says Hughes. "And by removing the skin from a chicken breast, you can reduce its fat content by an additional 80 per cent!"

But cooks often make the mistake of adding fat when preparing chicken, he adds. Oils, sauces and dressings account for 65 per cent of our daily fat intake and can quickly transform low-fat chicken into a high-fat meal. It's important to use each in moderation.

"Lighter fare is key to sensible summer eating," says Hughes. "Premium Oven Roasted and Seasoned Chicken Breasts from Maple Lodge Farms are two ideal options available at your neighbourhood Sobey's, IGA and Knechtel's food markets."

Diet and Exercise Living Well Verse

Brain Research Shows That Diet and Exercise are Keys to Living Well

An old adage says that aging is a state of mind, but new research is beginning to prove it.

As brain research advances, experts are finding that some of the physical and mental changes normally associated with aging may not actually be normal at all, but instead, the result of treatable and preventable health conditions. In fact, by some estimates, only 30 percent of physical aging can be traced to our genes. The rest is up to each individual.

According to the AARP Andrus Foundation, developing and maintaining good "cognitive health" is as important to a person's quality of life at any age as maintaining good physical health. A series of four new booklets, "Staying Sharp: Current Advances in Brain Research," provides information and tips based on this new research. The booklets were derived from a series of public forums that were conducted in partnership with the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives, and featured the country's foremost researchers, scientists and physicians working in the field of aging and the brain. These four booklets provide some of the most up-to-date information available.

One of the key findings of this new research is that diet and exercise are crucial not just for physical well being, but also for mental acuity at any age.

The Importance of Diet

The food choices we make throughout our lives can make a difference in the likelihood for many diseases that cause premature death or disability, including heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes. Three long-term studies being conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health have followed 300,000 people and suggest that:
- a diet rich in vegetables may help prevent breast and prostate cancer
- colon cancer is more common among those who eat more red meat
high-fat diets increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers
- a diet with too many refined carbohydrates increases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

Although there are some nutritional changes associated with aging, for the most part, what was considered a healthy diet at 40 will still be a healthy diet at 60 or 70. Health experts recommend a diet that emphasizes whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other tips:
- Drink eight to 10 cups of fluid every day, and make at least five of those water. Limit caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.
Reduce the amount of saturated fat in your diet and replace it with monounsaturated fat such as that in olive, canola, sunflower, safflower and soybean oils.
- When snacking, choose fruits, vegetables or whole-grain products.
- Make eating fun by sharing dinnertime with family and friends, or joining community functions whenever possible.

The Benefits of Exercise

Many experts believe that regular exercise is the single most important thing anyone can do to improve overall health and well-being. New studies show that aerobic activity increases levels of brain chemicals that encourage the growth of nerve cells, which may be the reason moderately strenuous exercise is associated with enhanced memory skills.

Some ways that exercise can help retain mental capacity include:
- reducing anxiety and stress
- improving mood and possibly alleviating depression
- improving sleep
- increasing energy levels
- slowing the rate of bone loss
- enabling the body to use insulin more efficiently
- improving cardiovascular health
- controlling weight and preventing obesity

The National Institute of Aging suggests incorporating four types of exercises into your life. Endurance exercise, such as walking, helps increase stamina. Strength exercise, with free weights or resistance weights, increases metabolism and may help prevent osteoporosis. Flexibility exercise, such as stretching or yoga, prevents and aids recovery from injuries. And balance exercises, such as standing on one foot, help prevent falls.

By following these basic tips, as well as any advice from your physician related to any specific health conditions, it is possible to live well in old age as opposed to just living into old age.

The AARP Andrus Foundation's "Staying Sharp" series can be downloaded from the association's Web site at www.andrus.org/sharp/sharp_pubs.html. Each booklet covers a specific area: Memory Loss and Aging; Depression; Chronic Health Issues and Quality of Life. The booklets also are available by mail from AARP Fulfillment, 601 E Street NW, Washington, DC 20049, or by phone at 800-424-3410 and ask for series D17561 to get the booklets in English or D17461 to get the booklets in Spanish.

Salt Habit Ode

Changing Your Salt Habit Starts at the Grocery Store

Many medical experts would agree that being worth your weight in salt in today's society is not quite as valuable as it may have been at one time. In fact, researchers and doctors across the world have found that a diet high in sodium contributes to a number of health risks, including high blood pressure.

This is not breaking news to many Americans, especially those already at a high risk of heart disease, stroke and certain kinds of cancers. The number of Americans at a high risk for high blood pressure alone has grown to nearly 50 million. It also may not come as a surprise to the many people whose doctors have continuously recommended a low-sodium diet in an attempt to decrease these and other health conditions. But this may be harder than simply removing the salt shaker from the dinner table.

Over 70 percent of a person's salt intake is derived from processed foods, so skipping that sprinkling of salt at dinner is not a sufficient way to cut the salt in your diet. Using salt substitutes or alternatives like NoSalt is an easy way to add flavor to your food without the sodium. Another way to prevent sodium from entering your kitchen and your body is to keep your eyes open at the food source itself, the grocery store.

Following these grocery shopping tips can help reduce the salt in you and your family's diet:

Always Read the Label

Salt is a substance with many different names. So even if you make the extra effort to read food labels and search for the amount of salt in the product, it can be difficult to determine. The following list contains a few of salt's aliases: sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, sodium benzoate, monosodium glutamate (MSG), sodium nitrate and disodium. Other products with a large sodium content include hydrolyzed vegetable protein, soy sauce, miso and brine.

Interpreting the Labels

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) is making an effort to create public awareness of the amount of salt in store products. "By appropriately labeling, we are attempting to inform the public and those who want to keep their sodium intake down as to the amount of sodium they are consuming," says Ida Yoder, a chemist with the FDA's over-the-counter drug products division.

But some salt descriptors are not so cut and dry. Use the flowing list as a guideline to help determine the approximate number of milligrams of salt in a product:
- Sodium free - Contains less than 5 mg of sodium per serving
- Very low sodium - 35 mg or less per serving
- Low Sodium - 140 mg or less per serving
- Reduced Sodium - Contains at least 25 percent less sodium than the original product
- Without added salt - No salt is added during processing to a product which would normally have salt added
- No salt added - Unsalted

Fresh is Best

Avoid processed foods in the grocery store and head directly to the fresh fruit and vegetable aisle instead. Rather than adding salt to these fresh food items while cooking, use unsalted butter or salt alternatives. Many salt substitutes, such as NoSalt, are sodium-free but taste like the real thing. "By incorporating salt substitutes and other spices into your cooking, you can still add flavor to food while skipping the sodium," says Janet Andreas, a Home Economist with Reckitt Benckiser. She also recommends using a variety of spice substitutes as salt alternatives like Seasoned NoSalt.

If you do buy canned vegetables, rinsing them in water for one minute can reduce their sodium content by 40 percent. Also, it is important to resist the temptation of fast food, which also usually has a high salt content.

While making these tips habits on your trips to the grocery store can help reduce your sodium intake, health professionals recommend an even larger, overall change in diet. One diet that specifically addresses the issue of hypertension is the Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH), a diet formulated by clinicians and researchers at Harvard University.

The DASH diet is based on increased servings of fruits and vegetables and the inclusion of low fat dairy products, lean meats, poultry and fish. The diet provides the right amount of fiber, adequate vitamins and antioxidants while limiting sodium and fat intake.

Consulting with your physician is the best and safest ways to address high blood pressure and the treatment of other health concerns. But by taking the initiative to start eating a healthier diet, you begin taking responsibility for your own health and well-being.

Reckitt Benckiser, the makers of NoSalt, has published a brochure on how to manage sodium intake and live an overall healthier lifestyle. To receive a free booklet entitled "Changing for Life," call toll free at 1-800-841-1256.

Low-Sodium Diet Blood Pressure Opus

Study Shows Low-Sodium Diet Can Decrease Blood Pressure as Effectively as Some Medications

A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology says that women who limit their salt intake can substantially lower their blood pressure.

In fact, the study, which looked at the health benefits of a low-sodium diet for postmenopausal women, showed that some women's blood pressure decreased by 16 points
- as much as would be expected from some blood pressure-lowering medications.

The study tracked 35 healthy postmenopausal women with systolic blood pressure (the higher number in a reading) from 130 to 159. For three months, half the group walked briskly 30 to 40 minutes a day, at least four days a week, but ate their usual diet. The others limited their total salt intake to about a teaspoon (3,000 mg) per day, while maintaining their usual level of activity. The systolic blood pressure dropped for both groups
- five points among women who exercised, and 16 points among the women who ate little salt.

But changing eating habits to lower sodium intake can be easier said than done. The Mayo Clinic and NoSalt salt substitute offer some tips for stocking your kitchen and eating at home that can help establish healthier eating habits and lower your blood pressure.

- Make a list. Plan your meals weekly and include all the ingredients you'll need on your grocery list. Don't forget breakfast and some snacks. Be sure to read labels of prepared foods and stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables.

- Buy fresh. Generally, fresh foods are healthier than prepared foods because you can control what ingredients are added. Fresh foods generally also have better color, flavor and nutrients.

- Don't shop on an empty stomach. If you shop when you're hungry, you're more likely to buy foods you don't need, which may contain high amounts of fat and sodium.

- Look at labels. Take time to read labels and compare similar foods. Choose those that are most nutritious.

- Stock your kitchen wisely. Healthful foods aren't necessarily hard to find or expensive. Choices like low-fat or fat-free milk and cheeses, brown or white rice, bagels, pasta, legumes (black, red and navy beans, for example), skinless chicken and extra-lean cuts of beef all contribute to lower fat and sodium levels.

- Use healthful cooking techniques. Cook with less salt and little or no oil or other fat. To enhance flavors, use onions, herbs, spices, vinegars and salt substitutes like NoSalt salt alternative. Cutting the amount of meat in stews and casseroles and substituting lower fat dairy products, such as reduced fat cream cheese and sour cream, also help. Grill, broil, roast or stir-fry foods instead of frying.

The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension eating plan is a proven method to lower blood pressure. This diet is a combination of reduced saturated fat and sodium that emphasizes fresh fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products and recommends limiting sodium intake to 3,000 milligrams (about one teaspoon) per day. That may seem like a lot, but because sodium is hidden in many foods (for example, one cup of skim milk contains 127 milligrams of sodium), salt intake can add up quickly.

Generally, it takes about six weeks for taste buds to get used to less salty foods, experts say. But once you get started and settle into the routine, you'll notice many benefits of an improved diet. And following a low-sodium diet doesn't mean you can't eat foods you love. It's a matter of reading labels and making good food choices.

For more information on lowering your sodium intake and the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet, call NoSalt for an educational brochure at (800) 228-4722.
